Four persons have been arrested for allegedly setting Obasanjo Farm ablaze.

The farm is located at Howe district of Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State on a large expanse of land where improved varieties of mango and other crops are cultivated in large quantities.

The arrest is coming days after the suspects set fire on the 2,420 hectares of farmland. In a statement, Kehinde Akinyemi, former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s spokesman, described the incident as a bad development.

Authorities in the state had in the wake of the incident vowed to fish out the perpetrators for prosecution.

“It is discovered that the fire was an act of sabotage, the perpetrators must be brought to book,” Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State was quoted as saying in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nathaniel Ikyur.

On his part, the former president appreciated those who had reached out to him following the incident, expressing happiness that there was no death reported after the inferno.
