Freedom Online, a leading online news platform, has honoured the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, with an Appreciation Award in recognition of his contributions to the success of the organisation’s 7th Yearly Lecture.

The award was presented on Wednesday, September 3, 2026, and signed by the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of Freedom Online, Gabriel Akinadewo.

In the citation accompanying the award, the organisation expressed appreciation to the Minister for his generosity, encouragement and contributions towards the successful hosting of the annual lecture, describing his support as a reflection of his commitment to initiatives that promote meaningful conversations on national development.

Speaking during the presentation, Akinadewo said the award was not merely in appreciation of the Minister’s support for the yearly lecture but also a recognition of his performance and impact in public office.

According to him, Tunji-Ojo’s interventions at the Ministry of Interior have demonstrated a commitment to public service, institutional reform and improving the experience of Nigerians who interact with government agencies under the ministry.

“We decided to honour the Honourable Minister because we believe that public servants who distinguish themselves through tangible results and a commitment to the people deserve to be recognised. His support for our 7th Yearly Lecture was significant, but beyond that, we have watched his work at the Ministry of Interior and the various reforms being implemented under his leadership.

“This award is therefore a combination of appreciation for his support and recognition of the good work he is doing through his office. We believe that positive contributions to national development should be acknowledged and encouraged,” Akinadewo said.

He added that Freedom Online remained committed to using its yearly lecture as a platform for bringing together public officials, professionals, thought leaders and other stakeholders to discuss critical issues affecting Nigeria and proffer solutions for national development.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, while receiving the award, expressed appreciation to Freedom Online for the recognition.

He described the honour as an encouragement to continue serving Nigerians with dedication and commitment.

“I am deeply grateful to Freedom Online for this recognition. I consider this award not just an honour, but also a responsibility and an encouragement to continue doing my best in the service of our nation.

“I appreciate the organisers for recognising the work being done at the Ministry of Interior. Whatever achievements we have recorded are products of teamwork, the support of Mr. President and the dedication of the men and women within the ministry and its agencies. I thank Freedom Online for this gesture and for consistently providing a platform for conversations that contribute to the development of our country,” the Minister said.
