Hosa Okunbo laid to rest as Govs, others pay last respect

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, on Friday, joined his Lagos, Ogun and Kebbi State counterparts, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Dapo Abiodun and Abubakar Atiku Bagudu respectively, in paying glowing tributes to late business magnate, Captain Idahosa Wells Okunbo, who died at the age of 62. Two daughters of President Muhammadu Buhari, Halima and Zara, and their husbands as well as and a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, were also in attendance.

Former governors of Delta, Gombe and Borno states, Chief James Ibori, Hassan Dakwambo and Alli Modu Sheriff respectively, as well as the representatives of the Oba of Benin and the Olu of Warri were equally at the well-attended funeral service for the late business mogul. In his homily, Pastor Godheart Ekweme stated that there was a time for everything, while according to him, the deceased spent better part of the last one year in deeper relationship with his creator.

Obaseki, in his remarks, described Okunbo as an uncommon Nigerian, a genius, a breaker of class ceilings, a bridge builder, a business tycoon and a philanthropist extraordinaire. Edo governor said: “Captain Hosa, as we fondly called him, was a man with a big heart. Although, he had humble beginnings, he was armed with unyielding resolve, as his children have said, and he was determined to surmount life’s challenges and he did.
