President Bola Tinubu has emphasized that the value of human life far outweighs that of cattle, urging leaders and communities in Benue State to prioritize peace and unity amid ongoing attacks by armed herders.

Speaking during a town hall meeting with political leaders and stakeholders in Makurdi on Wednesday, the President stressed that security and human dignity must take precedence, warning that divisions and negligence provide opportunities for enemies to exploit.

“The value of human life is greater than that of a cow. And it is only when you open the door that a political enemy would come in,” Tinubu told the gathering, which included Governor Hyacinth Alia and traditional rulers.

The President, who is on a working visit to the state following renewed violence that has claimed over 100 lives, underscored the importance of unity among leaders in order to develop a common approach to ending the crisis.

Addressing Governor Alia directly, Tinubu remarked, “Your political enemies don’t want you to succeed. Are you just realising that?”

He called on all stakeholders to put aside political differences and work collectively towards restoring security and peace in the state.

President Tinubu assured that the federal government is committed to supporting efforts aimed at resolving the crisis and improving the safety of citizens.

“We cannot do without one another. I want us to create a leadership committee now to meet in Abuja to craft a strategy for lasting peace. And I am ready to invest in that peace,” he added.

Benue killings: I expect arrests, Tinubu directs security chiefs

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday directed the security chief to arrest perpetrators of last Friday’s massacre in Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

“Christopher… We need to get our ears to the ground. Let’s get those criminals. Let’s get them out,” Tinubu told the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, during a town hall meeting with political leaders in Benue State.

Tinubu is visiting Benue, a hotbed of recent killings by armed herdsmen that claimed at least 100 lives.

Speaking to the Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, he said, “Your political enemies don’t want you to succeed…Are you just realising that?

He called on leaders from across the region to work together.

“We cannot do without another. I will want us to create a leadership committee now to meet in Abuja to fashion out a strategy for lasting peace. And I am ready to invest in that peace,” he said.

Tinubu earlier visited persons recovering from last Friday’s attack by armed herders at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital.

He was received by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and the host Governor, Hyacinth Alia.

The attack claimed over 100 lives.
