Dayo Amusa to critics: You want us to suspend our jobs, curse FG over kidnapping
Dayo Amusa, the Nollywood actress, has pushed back against social media users who frequently attack celebrities for not speaking out enough about the nation’s security challenges.
In a post on X, Amusa described the pressure on celebrities to ignore promoting their movie projects and constantly speak about insecurity as “crazy”.
“I woke up today with a very heart…The bullying many of you subject our colleagues to in the creative industry is crazy… They freely can’t share their opinion, they can’t post their jobs without being called insensitive..,” she wrote.
She went on to highlight the financial struggles behind movie production and made it clear that she would not bow to online pressure to “post videos of kidnapping and curse the government daily”.
“We go to bank to take loans to shoot movies with high interest rate, but you want us to suspend our jobs and be posting videos of kidnapping and cursing the government daily while you’re in your own office tweeting and enjoying your environment,” she added.
“The day i decided to start using this app actively, I’ve made up my mind that many of you trolls don’t matter..I won’t pander to mobs as I didn’t build my brand on it.
“I have other strings of income, don’t come under my post to act silly, I’ll send you home…”
Amusa also spoke about the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo, adding that “May God bring succor to the family of the kids and teachers kidnapped in Oyo state..May they return home safely”.
Amusa’s comments follow the growing chorus of celebrities voicing frustration over insecurity in the country.
British-Nigerian rapper Skepta recently called out President Bola Tinubu, expressing deep distress over the suffering of Nigerians and questioning how much more the country must endure.
He also appealed for global support to what he called a “deep level of injustice” in Nigeria, stating plainly, “the country needs help.”
