Infrastructure commissioning: Do not increase rents, Sanwo-Olu appeals to landlords, landowners

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has appealed to landlords and landowners in the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area to refrain from increasing rents for houses and shops.

Sanwo-Olu made the plea during the inauguration of the Abiola/Ajayi/Ogba and Obawole/Iju-Ishaga roads on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the 643-metre road construction, which includes a bridge with slip roads, began on 24 October 2022. The infrastructure provides a crucial connection, replacing a swamp area where a wooden bridge had previously been used for a fee.

The governor stressed that the purpose of the new infrastructure is to improve the quality of life for residents, not to increase their financial burdens.

“I want to appeal to landlords and landowners: do not increase your rents or land prices. The essence of this infrastructure is to bring relief to the people, not create further hardship.

“Please ensure the residents can enjoy the benefits after enduring years of environmental challenges. Kabiyesi, kindly ensure this bridge is not used as a dumping site.

“I remain committed to addressing longstanding community issues, including flooding and commute challenges,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

Similarly, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Mr Olufemi Daramola, highlighted the administration’s dedication to initiating and completing projects that benefit the people.

NAN also reported that the governor inaugurated the Alapere pedestrian bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area, which had been destroyed by an articulated vehicle in December last year.
