JUST IN: Fayose dumps Atiku, insists on power shift to south

Former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, who doubles as a chieftain of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP,  has dumped his party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, insisting that power must return to the South in 2023, JustNews reports.

Fayose in a twitter post on Wednesday, noted that since President Muhammadu Buhari, a northerner, will be completing eight years in office in 2023, it is only logical for power to return to the South.

“The current President of Nigeria is a 2-term Northern Presidency, thus implying that it MUST be a Southern Presidency in 2023 or NOTHING,” Fayose wrote. “Awa ‘South’ lo kan’. Nigerians should await details soon.”

PDP’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku is a northerner from Adamawa State.

Fayose’s decision suggests he won’t be backing the former Vice Ppresident and has prompted speculations that he may soon defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), whose presidential candidate is Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The emergence of Atiku as PDP presidential candidate actually ignited a cold war in the PDP, especially fact that Atiku snubbed Rivers State governor, Nyesome Wike for the slot of his running mate  to Delta State governor, Ifeayin Okowa.

Fayose had supported Wike during the PDP presidential primary.
