Just in:  Suspended APC Senator Gbenga Daniel Sets to Defect to PDP

In a significant political realignment, Senator Gbenga Daniel, the former Governor of Ogun State who was recently suspended by the All Progressives Congress (APC), is finalising plans to join the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This development follows Senator Daniel’s suspension last Tuesday by the Ogun State chapter of the APC for alleged anti-party activities. The suspension, which also included a loyalist, Kunle Folarin, was ratified during a State Working Committee meeting presided over by the state APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi.

According to a source close to the senator, his move to the PDP is imminent and could be announced “anytime from now.” The defection plans appear to be an open secret, with tangible evidence already on display.

Our correspondent who visited Iperu, the hometown of the 2023 PDP governorship candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, observed that the official campaign office has been adorned with billboards and posters of Senator Daniel. The signage, located opposite a Hayden filling station, prominently features the senator’s imagery, signalling a new and unconcealed political alliance between the two camps.

This potential defection marks a major shift in Ogun State’s political landscape, bringing a former governor and sitting senator into the fold of the main opposition party, a move that is likely to recalibrate strategies ahead of future elections.
