Lagos lawmaker Femi Saheed declares 2nd term ambition, says, “I’m ready to serve again” …Commends President Tinubu’s performance

The lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Femi Saheed, has declared his readiness to seek a second term, reeling out reasons why he’s confident that he will get the buying of his constituents.

Saheed made this known, while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of his declaration of interest held at his residence in the Agiliti area of Kosofe.

He also commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as bold economic reforms and efforts in tackling insecurity across the country.

Saheed noted that his experience in office has reinforced his belief that public service is a call to serve humanity.

“When I came into office, I realised that lawmaking is a call from God. It is about serving the people selflessly, often at the expense of personal comfort. But when you give your best and the people appreciate your efforts, that alone is fulfilling,” he said.

Recalling his legislative journey, Saheed said that he entered office with a strong passion to improve governance and positively impact his constituency.

“I came with the determination to influence lawmaking and use oversight functions to improve financial management, budgeting, and project execution. I thank God that my contributions in the Assembly have helped shape key laws, including the Anti-Grazing Law and the establishment of the Lagos State University of Medicine and Technology, among others,” he said.

Speaking on his achievements, the lawmaker listed several infrastructural and social interventions facilitated during his first term.

“Within this period, I facilitated the construction of 12 roads, attracted a 1,200-capacity FIFA-standard stadium to the constituency, and supported the rebuilding of schools, including one in Odo Ogun, which is now among the best in Lagos State.

“I also introduced student shuttle buses, transporting over 650,000 students daily across key routes, and facilitated water projects in areas like OPIC Isheri Estate,” he said.

Saheed added that he has supported education through the distribution of over 1,000 JAMB forms, scholarships, bursaries, and the provision of school furniture.

“I also launched initiatives such as the Hon. Femi Saheed Medical Programme and Food Palliative Scheme to support vulnerable residents. Beyond that, I have helped many graduates secure employment in government agencies,” he said.

On infrastructure, he noted that previously abandoned projects, including the Ketu-Alapere-Demurin Road, were completed through his intervention.

“I leveraged my position in the Finance Committee to ensure such projects were captured in the budget and delivered,” he explained.

Speaking on political developments in the constituency, Saheed advised against attempts to impose candidates, insisting that due process must be followed.

“We are ready for a fair primary election. Gone are the days when candidates would be imposed on the people. We are not afraid of competition, but it must be based on credibility, character, and track record,” he said

“Our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, remains a father to all, and his name should not be used to impose candidates. Let there be fairness and transparency,” he said.

On his re-election bid, the lawmaker expressed confidence that his performance would earn him another term.

“If given another four years, especially as a ranking member, I will achieve even more for my people. Experience matters in governance,” he said.

At the national level, Saheed praised the Tinubu administration’s economic policies, acknowledging that reforms come with challenges.

“There is no gain without pain. Economic reforms such as subsidy removal and currency adjustments are difficult but necessary steps toward long-term stability. Today, we are seeing progress in areas like local refining, infrastructure, and diversification of the economy,” he said.

He also noted improvements in sectors such as education, aviation, and banking, adding that ongoing reforms are gradually strengthening the economy.

On security, he admitted that challenges remain but maintained that efforts are being made to address them.

“We are tackling insecurity and stabilising the economy. These are not easy tasks, but progress is being made,” he said.

Some constituents who spoke in support of Saheed commended his performance and called for his re-election.

Mrs. Abosede Ajagbe, an event planner, praised the lawmaker for his contributions to infrastructure and education.

“He has done a lot for the people, from road construction to providing buses for students. He deserves a second term to continue his work,” she said.

Similarly, Mr. Ajiroba Idris Ogunnaike described Saheed as a focused and result-driven leader.

“He has performed better than many before him, providing basic amenities like roads, water, and employment opportunities for youths. We support his return for continuity,” he said.
