Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said that Lagos State is on a steady developmental pace, assuring that his administration will continue deliver quality governance for residents of the State.
Sanwo-Olu stated this on Sunday, during the Interdenominational Service organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs as part of activities to herald the sixty-third National Independence Day Celebration with the theme: “Love, Peace and Unity” at Chapel of Christ The Light, Alausa.
Represented at the celebration by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyi, the Governor stated that the 63rd Independence Anniversary of Nigeria provides an avenue to celebrate the progress made so far in Lagos and Nigeria as a whole.
He said that although Nigeria is yet to fully achieve the hope and aspirations of its founding fathers, the Governor averred that the pace of development being witnessed in recent time portends greater hope of tomorrow for the citizens.
Sanwo-Olu, who craved for prayers in his second term in office, added that there is need for Nigerians to renew their commitment to harnessing the natural resources that abound in the country in order to create a better society for future generations.
He commended Lagosians for their trust in his administration’s strides, just as he sought their collaboration on the realization of the T.H.E.M.E.S. PLUS Developmental Agenda for a greater Lagos.
In his remarks at the Celebration Service, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode promised that the state government will ensure that citizens enjoy the dividends of democracy through various people oriented initiatives in line with the Ministry’s mandate
The Permanent Secretary, Home Affairs, Mrs. Ololade Aina who was represented by the Director of Public Affairs, Lanre Bajulaiye, appreciated the governor for always giving needed support and attention to the activities and programs of the Ministry.
Delivering the sermon at the event, the Guest Minister and Overseer of Grace Assembly, Alagbado, Lagos, Rev’d Dr. Michael Oni, underscored the indispensability of love, unity and peace to the attainment of the greater Lagos vision of the State Government, saying that love must be built on a firm foundation, unity erected on solid pillar and peace surrounded by strong walls.
Alluding to the fact that peace being experienced in Lagos is a result of determination successive political administrations in the State, Oni expressed the hope that the Lagos of everyone’s dream is possible through collective efforts of everyone.
Oni charged Lagosians and Nigerians at large to shun practices and activities that frustrate the growth and sustainability of Love, Peace and Unity across the Country.
The Independence Anniversary was attended by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Gboyega Soyanwo, Special Adviser on Religion (Christian), Very Rev. Adebukola Adeleke, body of Permanent Secretaries, Professional Bodies, Military and Para Military Groups, Head of Government Agencies, Students, Representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter among others.
The service featured intercessory prayers for peace and unity in Nigeria, prayers for the President and his cabinet, Lagos State Governor and his Cabinet, Lagos State Public Servants among others and thanksgiving.
