Popular Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, popularly known and called ‘Jenifa’ is the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, JustNews reports.
This medium confirmed exclusively from multiple sources close to the party’s Governorship Candidate in the state, Dr Abdul Azeez Olajide Adediran aka Jandor and leadership of the party in the state.
Our correspondent learnt that four major reasons were responsible for her choice as for the covered position.
“She is from Ikorodu and Lagos East Senatorial District like the incumbent Deputy Governor.
“She is also from the royal family in the town,” sources informed.
This medium learnt further that Funke Akindele’s mother is the immediate younger sister of the current Ayangbunren of Ikorodu, His Royal Majesty Kabiru Shotobi. “Her mother is the immediate younger sister of the monarch, same parents,” our sources said.
Funke was also picked because of her gender as well as her youth. “She’s a female, and she is very young.
Finally, her popularity among her colleagues in the movie industry was also an added advantage.

Lagos PDP clears air on Funke Akindele’s status
The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said the governorship candidate of the party, Dr Olajide Adediran, has not named Nollywood actress Funke Akindele as running mate.
The Lagos PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr Hakeem Amode, said the party was not aware of any running mate yet
Amode was reacting to reported emergence of Akindele, as running mate nominee to the PDP governorship candidate.
According to him, the candidate will soon announce his running mate without delay and everybody will know.
“It is not in my place to announce who the running mate to our governorship candidate, Jandor, is. Let us wait for the candidate himself to announce.
“Has the candidate of the party announced anywhere that he has picked his own running mate?
“What you are reading online on this, is it from the candidate of the party?
“The candidate of the party will announce who his running mate is and he has not done that. We should wait for the official announcement,” Amode said.
