Mechanical Engineer turned politician, Honourable Yusuf Sulaiman Lasun will not only remain in history as the first person to serve a double term in the Green Chambers, House of Representatives from the Federal Constituency he came from in Osun State, Irepodun/ Olorunda/Osogbo/Orolu, he would also go down in history as one of those who ever emerged as a principal officer in the National Assembly against the wish of their party but through the scheming of some powerful blocks in the Assembly.
Following this development, Lasun, naturally became parallel lines with the leadership of his party, APC, in his home state, even as he was alleged to have continued to bank on the block that made him the Deputy Speaker of the Green Chambers for the actualisation of his governorship dream.
The gap between him and Governor Rauf Aregbesola led APC in the state became wider when Lasun and his allies were alleged to have made certain statements that were regarded as offensive to the governor when he did an empowerment program.
However, going by information from reliable sources, the Deputy Speaker may have retraced his steps and made amends with leadership of his party back home.
He surprised many when he showed up to support the party’s candidate in the senatorial bye election that saw Ademola Adeleke emerge victorious. He was also seen on ground when Aregbesola buried his mother.
His recent moves are believed not to be unconnected with preparing ground for his governorship ambition after he returns to his original fold. His efforts, some feel may end up in futility as the party might not be able to trust him again.
