Malami protests alleged property demolition, petitions police

The former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has petitioned the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police over the demolition of his property in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.

Malami is the African Democratic Congress governorship candidate in Kebbi State.

The property, located at a commercial layout along Sani Abacha Road, housed the Malami Pressure Group, a political support organisation.

In a statement, the ADC Director of Strategic Media, Research and Policy Analysis, Abubakar Bello Abdullahi, said Malami was shocked by what he described as an act of lawlessness.

He alleged that the demolition was carried out by political opponents to provoke Malami and his supporters into taking actions that could threaten peace in the state.

The statement said Malami had directed his lawyers to seek legal redress, establish ownership of the property and demand compensation.

It urged ADC members and supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, saying the party would pursue justice through legal means.

However, the Kebbi State Government has denied involvement in the demolition, describing the allegation as false.

A statement by the governor’s media aide, Yahaya Sarki, said the claim was being circulated by opposition elements to create misunderstanding between Governor Nasir Idris and Malami.

It urged residents, particularly politicians, to disregard reports linking the government to the incident.

Speculation had circulated on Facebook and other social media platforms that the property, described as Malami’s campaign office, was demolished by suspected APC supporters allegedly acting on the state government’s instructions.

The governor’s spokesperson dismissed the allegation, insisting that the government had no hand in the demolition.
