NAFDAC crackdown: 3 supplements you should avoid
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has continued to intensify its post-marketing surveillance to prevent unsafe and unregistered health products from reaching Nigerian consumers.
In recent months, the agency has issued several public alerts warning against supplements found to contain hidden pharmaceutical ingredients or products that were being sold without NAFDAC registration.
The agency has also directed its zonal offices to remove such products from circulation where they are found.

MR.7 SUPER 700000 Capsules
One of the supplements recently flagged by NAFDAC is MR.7 SUPER 700000 Capsules, marketed as a male enhancement product.
According to the agency, laboratory analysis by the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) found that the capsule contained undeclared sildenafil and tadalafil, prescription medicines used to treat erectile dysfunction.
Because these ingredients were not declared on the label, consumers could unknowingly expose themselves to serious health risks, especially if they take nitrate medications for heart disease. NAFDAC has advised consumers to stop using or selling the product immediately.
WAP Sensual Enhancement Capsules
Another supplement under recall is WAP Sensual Enhancement Capsules. NAFDAC said the product contains undeclared sildenafil, tadalafil and flibanserin, none of which were listed on the product label.
The agency warned that these substances can interact with prescription medicines, cause dangerously low blood pressure, excessive drowsiness and other serious adverse effects. Consumers in possession of the product have been advised to discontinue its use and hand it over to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Unregistered Menofix Composition
NAFDAC has also warned Nigerians against Menofix Composition, stating that the product is not registered with the agency.
According to NAFDAC, the unregistered product differs from similarly named herbal products that are legitimately registered in Nigeria.
The agency said it received complaints about the product and concerns over possible liver-related side effects. Surveillance teams have been directed to remove the unregistered supplement from circulation wherever it is found.
