Ododo approves N72,500 minimum wage for Kogi workers

Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has approved N72,500 minimum wage for civil servants in Kogi State, with immediate effect.

 

The governor also suspended the tax burden on the approved sum for one year.

 

He made this known on Monday, during the unveiling of the new minimum wage, after signing the agreement.

 

President Bola Tinubu had on July 29, 2024, signed the N70,000 new minimum wage bill into law.

 

With the new Minimum Wage Act, all states in the country and employers of labour are mandated to pay at least N70,000 to the least-paid worker.

 

On Monday, Ododo said, “The new N72,500 minimum wage should take immediate effect, to enable the workers to cope with the current situation in the country.”

 

The Chairman of the state Minimum Wage Committee, Mr Elijah Evenemi, said the agreement on the minimum wage was not a victory for any political party but for the good of the masses.

 

The committee chairman appreciated the governor for a free hand to operate and achieve a common goal.
