Ondo: NDLEA arrests five suspects, destroys 7,500kg of skunk

The Ondo state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says its operatives have arrested five suspects during a raid of a cannabis farm in Okemoro, Isinbode camp forest.

Adebayo Solomon, the command’s media and advocacy officer, said in a statement that 7,500 kilogrammes of skunk cultivated on three hectares of land were destroyed during the raid on Saturday, October 17, following credible intelligence.

Solomon identified the suspects as Asikpo Ekpeyoung, 43; Solomon Okpani, 22; Ubong Friday, 35; Joseph Friday, 22; and Ekenimi Seth, 35.

“Exhibits recovered included 92 bags of skunk weighing 1,267kg, 11kg of cannabis seeds and 3kg of fresh cannabis stems, bringing the total weight of recovered exhibits to 1,281kg,” the statement reads.

“In a separate operation on Friday, 16th October 2026, operatives in Owo tracked 53-year-old Okunebe Ndidi to his hideout in Ameyinti, where they recovered 25 bags of cannabis weighing 375 kg.”

He said the operations reflected the command’s commitment to combating illicit drug cultivation, trafficking and distribution across Ondo state.

In May, the NDLEA dismantled a methamphetamine laboratory in Ogun state, which the agency said was allegedly operated jointly by a Nigerian drug cartel and Mexican methamphetamine experts.

The operation led to the seizure of more than 2.4 tonnes of methamphetamine and chemical materials valued at over $362 million on the international market, equivalent to more than N480 billion.
