Osinbajo bill to commission projects in Bayelsa

The immediate past Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, is expected in Bayelsa State on Monday to unveil the Agbura–Oxbow Lake Road.

The Agbura–Oxbow Lake road has just been completed and is expected to serve as a bypass for residents of Agbura and other Ogbia communities within that axis, as well as motorists seeking access to Nembe and beyond from the ever-bustling Swali Market. The road is also projected to boost economic development in the area.

According to a Sunday notice signed by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Moses Teibowei, the road will be closed to traffic from 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, to Monday, April 20, 2026. The closure will affect residents, motorists, and commercial tipper drivers.

“The road is scheduled to be commissioned on Monday, April 20, 2026, by former Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON. Teibowei explained that the temporary closure is to allow for a thorough clean-up and final preparations ahead of the ceremony.

“Motorists are advised to use alternative routes during the period. The commissioner also extended an invitation to all Bayelsans and the general public to attend the commissioning event, while thanking them for their understanding and cooperation,” the statement partly read.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has warmly welcomed the former Vice President to the state ahead of the inauguration.

In a statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, James Inegite, the APC described Osinbajo as a foremost leader of the party and called on residents to turn out in large numbers for the event.

“The recent inauguration of landmark projects is a testament to Governor Douye Diri’s unwavering commitment and dedication to expanding the frontiers of development in Bayelsa State.

“We are calling on all stakeholders, party executives in the various wards and local government areas, as well as the general public, to come out en masse to support the Renewed Hope for Assured Prosperity Government of Senator Douye Diri during the inauguration of this landmark project,” the statement concluded.
