The media team of former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo continued to use the office email of the Federal Government more than two months after leaving office.
According to practice, upon vacating office, a government official is expected to release all government properties in his possession to the government.
It has, however, noticed that recent emails sent by the media team of the vice president have emanated from the official email “[email protected]”.
The emails sent by the media team with the official email include the email announcing the partnership of his new organisation – Transform Education Through Innovation – and UNESCO which was sent out on Monday.
Another email sent on the former VP’s apologies for missing the upcoming All Progressives Congress (NPC) caucus meeting was also sent with the email.
An IT expert, Femi Akinbinu, who spoke with WesternPost described the continuous use of government email after leaving office as a case of “criminal impersonation.”
“This is a serious case that needs to be looked into. Whenever anyone leaves an office, he is meant to turn in everything official, in this case email. With this email still in their possession despite leaving office, they can send email to the unsuspecting public, impersonating the present occupier of the office. This case should be looked into and the handlers of the government domain should log them out and change the password,” he told WesternPost.
