Osun poll: Factional Accord Party chair endorses APC gov candidate Oyebamiji

The factional Accord Party’s presidential candidate and National Chairman, Prof. Christopher Imumolen, has disclosed that the party has stepped down its support for Governor Ademola Adeleke and stated its support for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Oyebamiji.

This revelation comes days before the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.

Imumolen stated this on Thursday during the Osun APC mega rally, which was held in the state.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who represented President Bola Tinubu, noted that, according to information at his disposal, the Accord party “has thrown in the towel” and consequently put their support behind the APC candidate.

While making his speech, Imumolen replaced the yellow cap, which is synonymous with the Accord party in the state, with that of the APC, illustrating his full support for the latter.

In the video, it was observed that after Imumolen dropped the yellow cap, it was flung upwards by an unidentified person at the rally.

Imumolen said, “As the national chairman of Accord Party, we have taken down our support for Ademola Adeleke and today, we declare our support for Ambo (Oyebamiji). Come on Saturday, all Accord members in Osun State should go to the polling units and vote for Ambo.

“By the 15th of August, Ambo will be sworn in as the governor of Osun State.”

Akpabio extended the president’s greeting to the people of the state, assuring that there would be adequate security on the ground to prevent any forms of harassment.

“Feel free to go out and vote the candidate of your choice,” the Senate President stated, adding that they need to “link the state with the government at the centre.”

In his remarks, Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, advised the party faithful to remain confident in the APC and go all out to cast their votes for Oyebamiji. He also cautioned against any form of violence before, during and after the election.

Addressing the rally members, Oyebamiji said, “The government of the APC that will be elected by the 15th of August, 2026, will be the government of the people, by the people and for the people. There’s no dancing again. I’ve a mandate with you, and the mandate is to touch the lives of the people of Osun.”

Others in attendance at the rally include APC national chairman, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Chief Bisi Akande, Senator Iyiola Omisore, among others.

On August 7, 2026, Imumolen formally announced his withdrawal from the 2027 presidential race and endorsed Tinubu for a second term, saying the president is well positioned to win the presidential election because of his reforms, leadership and growing nationwide support.
