Panic grips Anambra community as hoodlums make invasion, shoot CSO

There was pandemonium in the Obosi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Wednesday night when some yet-to-be-identified assailants attacked and shot the Chief Security Officer of the community, Sir Dan Igbokwubili.

The reason for the attack could not be immediately ascertained, but it was gathered that the hoodlums, suspected to be assassins, laid ambush on Igbokwubili by a roadside and immediately pumped bullets into his vehicle as soon as they sighted it.

Igbokwubili, an ex-police officer, was appointed as CSO of the community by the traditional ruler of the Obosi Kingdom, Igwe Chidubem Iweka(Eze Iweka III), and his cabinet members.

Although no life was lost, eyewitnesses in the community said during the encounter, the hoodlums set ablaze his the victim’s vehicle after riddling it with bullets.

One of the sources said, “He was accosted along the road by the assassins while driving home. They had laid an ambush along the road and as Igbokwubili was driving past, they opened fire on his vehicle, riddled it with bullets while he fell, and pretended to be dead.

“As he regained his consciousness, he took to his heels and was pursued by one of the assassins, but as a trained police officer, he retreated and kicked the assassin with his leg, hitting him on the penis and when the assassin slumped, he barely managed to escape and rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

“The incident created panic in the community as residents scampered to safety as bullets were sounding heavy.”

Confirming the development over the telephone, the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, regretted that the attack came at a time when the community was celebrating its independence from the grip of cultists, assassins, and kidnappers.

Iweka, however, warned that the Obosi community would not fold its arms and watch hoodlums have a field day in the community, even as he noted that efforts are still being intensified to leave no stone unturned in tracking down the culprits.

However, when contacted on the development, the state police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, saying that the police were tracking the criminals.

Ikenga said, “Yes, we are aware of the incident and we have got a clue. We are following up regarding the incident for possible arrest. The situation in the area is calm and further developments will be communicated please
