Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ife Federal Constituency have passed a vote of no confidence in Osun State Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, former PDP National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo, and Ife East PDP Chairman, Hon. Olasunkanmi Makinde, popularly known as Benco.
The decision was taken at a constituency meeting held at the residence of the Osun East Senatorial Leader. It was endorsed by former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ropo Oyewole, two serving commissioners, and 36 other stakeholders.
The leaders accused Adewusi, Oladipo, and Makinde of engaging in anti-party activities, including alleged fraternization with Hon. Taofeek Ajilesoro, the House of Representatives member who defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
They also faulted Makinde for allegedly inviting thugs to a constituency meeting on Oladipo’s instruction, describing the move as a threat to party unity.
According to the communiqué issued after the meeting, loyal PDP members in Ife East, such as Lawrence Omotosho, Adeyinka Adeniji (a.k.a Gbogbo Ebe), and Yakubu Olawusi, were being victimized and removed from positions for opposing Ajilesoro’s defection. Regular party meetings in the area were also said to have been suspended to weaken the PDP.
The leaders declared that such actions amounted to anti-party activities and posed a serious threat to the party’s chances in Ifeland. They therefore resolved to pass a vote of no confidence on Adewusi, Oladipo, and Makinde.
“In view of the above, which amounts to anti-party activities and poses grave danger to the success of the party in Ifeland, we hereby pass a vote of no confidence in Prof. Wale Oladipo, Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, and the PDP Chairman of Ife East Local Government, Hon. Olasunkanmi Makinde,” the communiqué read.
However, in a swift reaction, Prof. Oladipo dismissed the resolution as a joke. “We are all Ifes. It is absolute rubbish. They are just joking. They are a set of jesters,” he said.
