The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-West Geo-Political Zone and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), DIG Adegoke Mustapha Fayoade mni, has intensified efforts to strengthen security architecture in Lagos State through strategic engagements with police personnel, government officials, and key security stakeholders.
The high-profile working visit, which forms part of his ongoing tour of the South-West zone, underscored the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to professionalism, inter-agency collaboration, and the adoption of modern technology in combating crime and enhancing public safety.
Addressing officers and men of the Lagos State Command, DIG Fayoade charged personnel to remain committed to the core values of discipline, integrity, accountability, and professionalism. He emphasized that the effectiveness of policing depends largely on the conduct and dedication of officers entrusted with safeguarding lives and property.
The senior police officer also used the opportunity to highlight several welfare initiatives introduced by the Inspector-General of Police, aimed at improving the wellbeing, motivation, and operational efficiency of officers across the country. According to him, enhanced welfare remains a critical component of the ongoing reforms within the Force and is essential for boosting morale and productivity.
As part of the visit, DIG Fayoade paid a courtesy call to the Lagos State Government, where he was received by the Chief of Staff to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Mr. Tayo Ayinde. Discussions focused on the security situation in Lagos, ongoing developmental projects of the state government, and strategies for sustaining peace and stability in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong partnership between the Lagos State Government and security agencies in ensuring that the state remains safe for residents, businesses, and investors.
Continuing his engagements, DIG Fayoade visited the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), where he held extensive consultations with the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan. The discussions centered on emerging security threats, intelligence gathering, crime prevention strategies, and the deployment of advanced technological tools to strengthen law enforcement operations.
Speaking during the meeting, DIG Fayoade stressed the strategic importance of Lagos to Nigeria’s overall security and economic stability. He noted that the state occupies a unique position as the nation’s commercial nerve centre and that maintaining peace in Lagos is critical to national development.
According to him, the security of Lagos is directly linked to the security and prosperity of the entire country.
“If the security of Lagos is not solid, the security of Nigeria is in trouble. But when Lagos remains stable and secure, it contributes significantly to national peace, economic growth, and prosperity,” he stated.
The DIG commended the Lagos State Government, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, and all security agencies operating within the state for their unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and public order. He, however, stressed that evolving security challenges require a more scientific and technology-driven approach.
He called for greater investment in modern policing tools, intelligence systems, surveillance technologies, and digital platforms capable of improving accountability, transparency, and operational effectiveness.
“The security situation in Lagos is stable, but we must become more scientific in our approach. We need more technology, modern equipment, and innovative systems that will enhance intelligence gathering, improve response time, and strengthen law enforcement operations,” DIG Fayoade said.
He further applauded the LSSTF for its consistent support to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, describing the organisation as a critical partner in strengthening security infrastructure and operational capabilities across Lagos State.
In his response, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan praised the Inspector-General of Police for encouraging senior police officers to engage directly with their operational zones in order to review security strategies and address emerging threats proactively.
He revealed that Lagos State is significantly expanding its investment in security technology as part of efforts to stay ahead of criminal elements and improve emergency response capabilities.
According to Ogunsan, the state has already embraced drone technology for surveillance operations and continues to deploy helicopters for aerial monitoring and intelligence-led patrols. These initiatives, he explained, are helping security agencies identify criminal hideouts, monitor vulnerable locations, and respond more effectively to security incidents.
“We are migrating to technology. Before the end of the year, Lagosians will see the impact clearly. Drone operations are already yielding positive results, and we are continuously strengthening our aerial surveillance and patrol operations,” he said.
Ogunsan also reaffirmed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to sustained investment in modern security infrastructure, noting that the administration remains focused on providing security agencies with the resources needed to protect lives and property.
He highlighted the importance of intelligence gathering and community participation in effective security management, disclosing that the LSSTF operates a dedicated Intelligence Unit designed to complement police operations and provide residents with channels for reporting security concerns and offering feedback.
The engagements by DIG Fayoade ultimately reflected a shared determination among government, law enforcement agencies, and security partners to leverage technology, intelligence, collaboration, and citizen involvement in building a safer Lagos. The visit further reinforced the collective vision of ensuring that Lagos remains a model of effective policing, innovation-driven security management, and sustainable public safety in Nigeria.
