Police personnel to get 3-month free transport in Lagos
No fewer than 2,000 police personnel serving across Lagos State will enjoy three months of free transportation on the state’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), rail and water transport services under a new transportation welfare package unveiled by the Lagos State Government.
The initiative, which comes through the distribution of 2,000 Cowry Cards to selected police personnel, is aimed at easing the financial burden of daily commuting on personnel deployed to different parts of the state.
The beneficiaries will have free access to designated government transport services, including the BRT, Blue Line and Red Line rail services, as well as electric boats, for three months.
They will thereafter enjoy a 50 per cent discount on fares.
The cards were presented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation and Logistics, Hassan Adekoya, to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, represented by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Lagos, AIG Simeon Akpanudom.
The intervention is expected to provide some relief for police personnel whose duties frequently require movement across the state, while boosting their morale and further strengthening cooperation between the Lagos State Government and the Nigeria Police Force. Akpanudom, while conveying the IGP’s appreciation, commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the initiative and his continued support for police welfare.
He said the gesture would not only reduce the transportation burden on officers but also contribute to improved morale and stronger collaboration in the areas of public safety, security and good governance.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, assured that the cards would be distributed to deserving officers in a fair and transparent manner.”
