Purported defection of Adeniyi Aliu, 2000 SDP members to PDP, a story that belittles PDP… Aliu decamped four times within one year – By Hon. Kunle Akintola

By Hon. Kunle Akintola Akoko NE Chairman

The membership and structures of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Akoko North East and the entire Akoko are intact and are solidly with our principal, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA), the Governorship Candidate of our great party, SDP. The news of one Mr. Aliu Imurian Adeniyi defecting to PDP “with over 2,000 SDP members” is big fiction and a kind of political tactics which exposes the PDP as feeding the public with blatant lies and propaganda which portray the party as one struggling to stand on its feet. This laughable antic only belittles, the more, the already poor standing of the PDP and its Governorship Candidate by showing them as fabricating phantom memberships that will never become electoral votes.

Mr. Adeniyi Aliu is from Oyinmo Ward in Ikare municipality in Akoko North East LG of Ondo State is a professional party crosser or “decampee”. He joined the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in November 2022, apparently only to seek the mandate to contest for the ticket for the Ondo State Assembly. He got the ticket but did nothing after that as contributions to the Party. He did not run a campaign programme and did not align his activities with the party or party executive committee and was not prepared for the election.

In the 2023 General election, he scored less than 100 votes, and the people in his unit reported that Mr Aliu did not even vote for himself. He voted for another candidate and left the party after the election. In fact, Mr Aliu disengaged from the Social Democratic Party in April 2023 alone just as he came few months earlier with no supporters. This further fuelled the already prevalent suspicions that Mr Aliyu only came to block the SDP slot on behalf of a particular party.

When Mr. Aliu left our party in April 2023 after the general election, he went to another party, not PDP, and in the House of Representatives bye-election of February 2024 to elect a replacement for Hon Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, popularly known as BTO, who became Honourable Minister of Interior, Mr. Adeniyi Aliu, joined the campaign team of the APC candidate against the PDP and SDP contesters. Now, this professional Party crosser has again declared for yet another party, the PDP, on 13 June 2024 with a fictitious number of ghost SDP members. This makes his fourth declaration for different political parties with one year.
