Ariya Eko Independence Festival: Lagos Set to Celebrate Legends of Music at Muson Centre

Lagos is bracing for a cultural spectacle tomorrow, Sunday, October 5, as the Ariya Eko Independence Festival takes over the Muson Centre, Onikan, in what promises to be a night of rhythm, heritage, and nostalgia.

From 2 p.m., the stage will belong to Nigeria’s greatest living legends—Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey, Dele Abiodun, General Kolington Ayinla, Ayewa International, and a galaxy of other veterans—as they deliver a festival of music that defined generations.

For Lagos, the city that never sleeps, the Ariya Eko Independence Festival is more than just a concert. It is a homecoming, a salute to the rhythms that shaped Nigeria’s identity, and a reminder that true artistry stands the test of time. For over fifty years, these icons ruled the airwaves, creating sounds that told the story of Lagos—its struggles, its triumphs, its laughter, and its soul.

The Governor of Lagos State, serving as Special Guest of Honour, will lead the cream of Lagos society—cultural custodians, industry leaders, music lovers, and younger artists—to honour the veterans who built the foundation of today’s thriving Nigerian music industry, now commanding global recognition.

“This festival is a bridge between generations,” said Bimbo Esho, MD of Evergreen Music, event organiser. “It is where the past meets the present to inspire the future. Ariya Eko celebrates not just music but the spirit of Lagos and the resilience of her people.”

As the guitars strum, drums roar, and voices rise tomorrow, the Muson Centre will be more than a venue—it will be a shrine of Lagos’ musical heritage.

The Ariya Eko Independence Festival is not just a commemoration of Nigeria’s independence—it is a living testament that half a century on, Lagos’ legends still rule the waves, and their music remains a compass for the present and future of African sound.
