Attends 44th Edition in Zaria

The First Lady of Nigeria Senator Oluremi Tinubu has commended the organization of Northern Derby saying it is formidable in sustaining culture and tradition.

She stated this at the 44th edition of the horse racing sports where she was represented by Wife of the Vice President Hajia Nana Shettima.

The First Lady emphasized the economic impact of the sports which she says creates sources of income especially for youths.

“Today’s event marks a celebration of sporting excellence and also a tribute to a rich heritage that has been passed down through generations. The Northern Derby stands as a proud symbol of our history, culture, and identity, bringing together horse racing supporters, traditional institutions, community leaders, and distinguished guests from across Nigeria and neighbouring West African countries”.

“I am particularly pleased to learn that this noble authority was established through the vision and foresight of the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto and Premier of the former Northern Region. His commitment to preserving our cultural heritage and promoting unity continues to inspire us today”.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu stated that more youths should be encouraged to participate in the sports.

“I commend the organisers for ensuring that this event remains a platform for preserving tradition while creating opportunities for young people to participate in sports, cultural activities, entrepreneurship, and community development”.

Earlier, the Wife of the Vice President Hajia Nana Shettima on behalf of the First Lady was at the palace of the Emir of Zazzau and President of Northern States Turf Club Authority HRM Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamali.

At the palace she conveyed the First Lady’s view that the Derby be sustained and encouraged.

The Emir in his remarks appealed to Senator Oluremi Tinubu to champion the inclusion of horse racing into National Sports which he says will go a long way in curbing youth restiveness.

He called on the First Lady to also help promote culture and tradition especially among women and youth.
