Communiqué of the Forum of SDP State Chairmen issued today, 3 April 2025, at the Green Minds Hotel  Conference Centre, Abuja.

SDP TAKES CHARGE OF ITS FUTURE

We, as a Forum of SDP Chairmen of Nigeria, hereby resolve as follows:

  1. We express our vote of confidence in the leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which includes Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam as the National Chairman and Dr Olu Agunloye as the National Secretary.

  1. We also extend our vote of confidence to our National Working Committee (NWC) and commend its members for their outstanding efforts in building and positively repositioning the party.

  1. We warmly welcome the influx of new members to our party, including prominent politicians from across the country, and we are committed to collaborating with them to ensure victory in upcoming elections.

  1. We want to reiterate that new members will be admitted and registered through the party’s internal structures, led by the State Chairmen; they can not admit or register themselves as members of the party.

  1. We acknowledge that some structural adjustments may be necessary to accommodate the new members. However, fundamental issues such as changes to the party’s name, logo, insignia, slogan, or any drastic alterations to the party’s Constitution or Manifesto must not be undertaken lightly. Any such changes should be thoroughly discussed among NEC members before any action is taken.
  2. That democratically elected structures of the SDP at the state and national levels must not be truncated or dissolved to appease new joiners or at the whims of any individuals or interests. Elected officials should be allowed to serve out their terms.

  1. The consultative and democratic cultures of the SDP must be maintained and engaged in all decision-making to ensure that the party is open to all Nigerians fairly and transparently and equitably for all legitimate aspirations without subsuming the SDP under the ambitions of individuals, sections or groupings or parochial interests.
