Stop Sino trucks dumping of waste in Sagamu Interchange, group charges Ogun govt

A group, Remo Watch, has charged the Ogun State Government to stop the indiscriminate dumping of waste in the Sagamu Interchange by construction companies working in the area.

According to the group, trucks bearing the inscription, Sino Trucks, have been caught on camera by residents and passers-by dumping waste in the Interchange on many occasions, causing unbearable stench and desecrating the corridor.

The group, which urged the Ogun State Government to apply its environmental laws and arrest the protestors immediately, said failure to act with dispatch would be too costly for the State.

In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Israel Adebayo on Friday, the group called on the Ogun State Government, through the Ministry of Environment, to stop the offenders from creating an epidemic in the area, and defacing the corridor.

It said: “The Sagamu Interchange is one of the most iconic spots in Ogun State that proudly showcases the beauty of the Ogun State, but the corridor is currently being turned into an abattoir of waste and stench by unscrupulous construction companies dumping waste in it.

“Motorists and passers-by have been lamenting bitterly, wondering how the Ogun State Government led by Prince Dapo Abiodun, which invested enormous resources into giving the area a facelift, has allowed such a despoliation of the environment that risks harming the health of millions of people.

“We call on the Ogun State to act quickly and arrest the dangerous drift into environment decay. The situation is terrible, particularly as the Interchange is a gateway into Ogun State plied by Nigerians daily.”
