Tinubu seeks court order to inspect INEC materials for presidential poll
The President-elect, Bola Tinubu, has sought the order of the Court of Appeal to inspect the electoral materials used by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of the February 25, 2023, presidential election.
Tinubu made this known via his lawyer, Akintola Makinde, at the court on Tuesday.
The President-elect said he would need to inspect some of the electoral materials to enable him to prepare his defence against petitions seeking his nullification.
“The materials will be relevant in helping us to prepare our defence and also make comparison with the information contained in INEC’s back-end server,” Makinde said.
The presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) had registered their displeasure with the declaration of Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 presidential poll.
Tinubu polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat Atiku, who came second with 6,984,520 votes, while Obi garnered 6,101,533 votes to occupy the third position.
Atiku and Obi had also sought leave of the tribunal to inspect some election materials used for the polls.
