President Bola Tinubu has called for peace and decorum as Ondo State prepares for its off-cycle governorship election. Addressing political stakeholders and voters, the President emphasized the need to uphold democratic principles and ensure a process free from fear or intimidation, both before and after the polls.

In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu underscored the importance of a transparent electoral process that truly reflects the will of the people. He urged all stakeholders to respect citizens’ rights to freely choose their leaders.

The President commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its diligent preparations, particularly the timely distribution of sensitive election materials across the state’s 18 local government areas.

Tinubu also lauded the deployment of security personnel to maintain order, acknowledging assurances from the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff that security operatives would conduct themselves professionally and in line with the Electoral Act to ensure credibility.

The President reminded candidates and their supporters that the privilege to govern comes from the people and must not be undermined.

He stressed that ensuring a peaceful and credible election aligns with the collective goal of consolidating Nigeria’s 25 years of democratic governance.
