Troops repel terrorist attack in Plateau
Troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled an attack by terrorists on Latok community in Shendam LGA of Plateau state.
Citing security sources, Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, said the attackers invaded the community at about 2:30am on Friday, prompting troops of Sector 9, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), to respond.
The publication said the soldiers, supported by local youths from Bong, engaged the assailants and forced them to flee.
Makama said a subsequent search of the area revealed that two youths had been shot during the attack, while two houses were burnt and an undisclosed number of cattle stolen.
The injured residents were taken to Kwalla Hospital for treatment, the publication added.
Makama said the troops launched further operations to track down the fleeing attackers and recover the stolen livestock.
In another incident, troops of Sector 2, OPEP, foiled an attack by suspected bandits on Gyamgyam community in Garga district of Wase LGA in Plateau state.
Makama said the incident occurred at about 7:45am on Friday, when troops responded to reports of sporadic gunfire in the community.
The publication said residents resisted the attackers, preventing them from carrying out their plans, and no casualties were recorded.
Makama said troops have since begun patrols in Gyamgyam and neighbouring areas to prevent further attacks and track the assailants.
The publication added that security personnel remained in the area as the operation continued.
