Troops repel terrorists attempt to take over Bauchi village

Troops of the Nigerian Army have carried out a “coordinated offensive” against suspected terrorists in Mansur village and nearby settlements in Alkaleri LGA of Bauchi state.

The operation was part of the ongoing “Operation BUGUN KARKANDA III”, a military campaign aimed at restoring peace and security in parts of north-east and north-central Nigeria.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, troops successfully pushed back terrorists who had attempted to seize control of Mansur village.

Quoting military sources, Makama noted that the operation resulted in the liberation of the village.

“Following the offensive, troops consolidated their positions and conducted patrols across Alkaleri LGA to maintain security and restore normalcy. Residents have reportedly begun resuming socio-economic activities in the area,” Makama said.

An AK-47 rifle was also recovered during clearance operations carried out by the troops.

Makama added that intelligence reports suggest that cross-border terrorist groups operate across Plateau, Bauchi and Taraba states, using the terrain to move between locations and evade security forces.

“Military intelligence indicates that cross-border terrorist gangs operate within Plateau, Bauchi, and Taraba States, exploiting local terrains and engaging in fluid movement patterns to evade security forces,” Makama said.

“The insurgents are reported to include high-value targets such as Mallam Lehi, Mai-Kunkuru, and Mallam Azuge, who operate in the Wase/Kanam forests and Jejin Madam axis.”

Folusho Oyinlola, the general officer commanding 3 division, who is leading the operation, urged troops to remain vigilant during the ongoing campaign.

He noted the need to deny terrorists freedom of movement while ensuring the protection of civilians in the affected areas.
