Elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark has described the administration of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello as harsh, corrupt, and riddled with murders.
Clark made this statement during a Thursday appearance on Arise Television.
Yahaya Bello, he claimed, was merely being obstinate after his rough tenure as the state’s governor.
He said, “Yahaya Bello is just being stubborn. He has been living very very rough…having a very rough government, corruption, killing of people in the place during elections and so on.
He knows where to go, he led a very rough government with allegations of corruption levelled against him. There’s time for everything and the time to answer questions has come for him
“There’s time for everything and it has come for him to answer questions. He should go to court. He should go to court to answer the substance of the case, where did he get the money from?
“Is it true or not that the money he paid to the American school belongs to him or belongs to the government of Kogi State?
“The behaviour of the new Governor shows Yahaya Bello is in power for the third time. Ahmed Ododo is just running after him.
“I just want to plead with Ododo to do the needful so that the youth in this country will have something to fall upon.”
Remember that Bello is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on 19 counts related to purported money laundering, breach of trust, and theft of funds totalling N80.2 billion.
Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja is hearing the case.
Ola Olukoyede, The chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyeded, threatened to pursue Bello’s prosecution to the end. He said that shortly before he left office on January 27, 2024, the troubled former governor took $720,000 out of public funds to pay his child’s school fees ahead of time.
Yahaya Bello was declared wanted by the anti-graft agency after his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, allegedly spirited him away on April 17, 2024, preventing EFCC agents from apprehending him when they besieged his Abuja home.
