Some Yoruba youths have kicked against Sunday Adeyemo better known as Sunday Igboho over his agitation for Yoruba nation. They also condemned for what they as attempt to hijack leadership of Yoruba race.
In the contrary to their position towards Igboho’s struggle for secession of Yoruba people, the youth declared their support for the ongoing efforts spearheaded by the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, towards ensuring a restoration of peace across the troubled parts of the Southwest states occasioned by crisis created by clashes between herders and farmers in the region.
The youths spoke through their representative, Mr. Abdulrahman Agboola during one day discussion organized by the Pan Yoruba Congress on Wednesday, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The meeting which had in attendance the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde also had the Aare Ona Kakanfo, Gani Adams in attendance. Also in attendance were traditional rulers and prominent Yoruba leaders cutting across various socio cultural and political groups in the region.
The youths in their submission emphasized on the imperative of leadership in the ongoing efforts at mobilizing the Yoruba people towards securing Yorubaland and rebuilding its economy.
Agboola also condemned the attempt by some individuals he described as opportunists to commercialize the ongoing agitations, especially in their disregard for established leadership in the process. He said the youths recognize the leadership effort of Aare Ona Kakanfo and as such every well meaning actor in the process must equally recognize Gani Adams by consulting with him and leaders of traditional institutions in the region.
Furthermore, Agboola faulted the approach of Sunday Igboho, wherein he declared a secession of the Southwest from Nigeria.
The youths said what is foremost on the table is the sustained agitations for restructuring of the country and not any form of violent insurrection being promoted by Sunday Igboho. It also warned that it will not support any form of action that discredit genuine leadership in the pursuit of the interest of Yoruba people, anywhere in the country.
