A youth organization Lagos Progressive Youths (LPY) has congratulated and commended the Lagos State government for the timely issuance of its white paper on the Ikoyi building collapse which has far reaching effect.

According to the press statement issued in Lagos today Thursday 17th February 2022, the general secretary of the group comrade Gbenga Omage, commended the Lagos State government for taking the bull by the horns in accepting almost all the recommendations of the Toyin Ayinde led panel which investigated the collapse of the 21 storey building in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State on the 1st of November 2021.

The group commended the courage and sincerity of purpose of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration in setting up the panel of technocrats to investigate the unfortunate incident and make recommendations and for the timely release of the White paper on the recommendations which will go a long way in dispensing justice to the memory of those who unjustly lost their lives in the regrettable incident.

In the statement, the group stated that “The timely release of the white paper on the panel recommendations in which 26 of the 28 recommendations were accepted in whole, by this action, Mr. Governor and his team have shown a high-level of integrity and respect for the sanctity of human lives which is highly commendable”.

The group called on the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner of justice to immediately put in place measures to implement the accepted recommendations so as to deter and prevent a reoccurrence of the circumstances that necessitated the unfortunate incident.
