Dr. Kayode Ajulo, (SAN) Ondo State Attorney-General & Commissioner For Justice

Prominent human rights lawyer, Dr Kayode Ajulo has lend his voice to the condemnation of the killing of student of a College of Education in Sokoto, Deborah Yakubu.

Deborah was murdered In a gruesome manner on the accusation that she made a blasphemous statement against the prophet, which in some quarters is believed to be against the islamic laws.

In his statement, Ajulo says the kind of killing carried out on Deborah is unislamic but a pure case of extrajudicial killing. He says the religion of islam is a peaceful one.

Below is the statement as put across by the cerebral lawyer.

In the case of SHALLA v. STATE (2007) LPELR-3034(SC). While affirming the death sentence of those that killed their fellow under the guise and accusation of blasphemy, please find hereunder what, my noble lord, Hon. Justice. Dr. Justice I. T. Mahmud JSC (now the Chief Justice of Nigeria) has to say,
“Islamic religion is not a primitive religion that allows its adherents to take the law into their own hands and to commit jungle justice.
Instead, there is a judicial system in Islamic which
hears and determines cases including the trial of criminal offences and any body accused of committing an offence against the religion or against a fellow Muslim brother should be taken to the court (either a Sharia or a secular/common law court) for adjudication. It is only when a person is convicted and sentenced by a court of law that he will be liable to a punishment which will be carried out by an appropriate authority (i.e. the prison)”

Did I need to say more… #Letstopthe killings
