Lagos Govt Begins Compensation Payments to New Set of 100 Affected Property Owners of Oworonshoki Regeneration Exercise in Round 2

In fulfillment of it’s promise to compensate qualified property owners affected by the Oworonshoki regeneration exercise, the Lagos State government through the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA) today Thursday 13th November 2025 in Lagos, began the payment of compensation cheques to another set of 100 deserving property owners in round 2.

The exercise which took place at the Oloworo palace in Oworonshoki area of Kosofe local government council area, witnessed a large turnout of people comprising the LASURA team led by the General Manager TPL/ESV Oladimeji Animashaun, his directors and staffs, the Oloworo of Oworonshoki kingdom who was ably represented by one of his chiefs, CDC and CDA’s executives, property owners, youths and civil society organizations leaders, security agents, the media, etc.

 

It will be recalled that the Lagos State government through LASURA, earlier on the 23rd and 24th of October 2025 handed over compensation cheques to 79 qualified beneficiaries affected by the Oworonshoki regeneration exercise in the first round at a ceremony presided over by Tpl Animashaun.

It will also be recalled that the round 2 of the compensation payment exercise was the enumeration and verification of other qualified property owners affected by the Oworonshoki regeneration exercise, but not captured in the first round, took place on the 3rd of November 2025.

While presenting the cheques to beneficiaries, TPL/ESV Oladimeji Animashaun, stated that, this round 2 of compensation payment cheques is a reaffirmation and testimonial that, “Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as a listening and compassionate leader, is resolutely committed to his promise of compensation to affected property owners”. Speaking further, he said, “We are full of gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for putting smiles on the faces of the affected property owners”.

TPL ESV Oladimeji Animashaun at the presentation of compensation cheques today to about 100 beneficiaries in this round 2, after the first round of 79 beneficiaries, reiterated that, “This exercise will go a long way to convince naysayers and pessimists that the Lagos State government is a government that fulfill it’s promise”

The General Manager of LASURA also used the occasion to applaud the special adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on E-GIS and urban development Dr. Olajide Babatunde, and the Permanent Secretary office of Urban Development in the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development Arc Gbolahan Oki for their unwavering commitment to ensuring the fulfillment of the government promise to affected property owners.

At the ceremony, some affected property owners who were not captured in the rounds 1 and 2 of the exercise, were still coming forward with their documents for enumeration and verification which Tpl Animashaun promised will be treated and compensated if found qualified. He said, “We are committed to compensating every qualified property owner as promised by Mr. Governor”.

Some of the beneficiaries spoken to, were full of joy and expressed gratitude to the Lagos State government for the fulfillment of it’s compensation promise which they were initially sceptical about.
