Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state may have been left to his fate of losing out in his quest to have his way with his choice of Honorable Adekunle Abdukadir Akinlade as APC governorship candidate in 2019 elections. By his inability to have his way, its believed by many who were of the opinion Amosun was banking on his closeness to president Buhari not to mind whose ox is gored by his intention.
Making clarifications about a purported amended list of gubernatorial candidates of the party as approved by the National Working Committee (NWC) which has been trending on Social media since noon on Friday, The All Progressive Congress (APC) National Publicity Secretary, Mr Yekini Nabena has described as fake,
The list, intended to be an update on the initial one released by the Publicity Secretary with 24 candidates so far cleared by the NWC for the gubernatorial election also bears the secretary’s signature.
The latest list is contained in a statement dated Oct 5, 12.noon and with the tag” For Immediate release” it read in part :Following the Governorship Primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held across the country, the Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) at its meeting held on Thursday, 4th October, 2018 ratified the reports of the various Electoral Committees and adopts the under-listed as Governorship candidates of the APC for the forthcoming 2019 general elections.
According to the ‘new’ list, the name of the original gubernatorial candidate in Ogun state, Dapo Abiodun was substituted for Adekunle Akinlade A, the dropped choice of the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, thus fuelling the suspicion that the list may have emanated from Ogun state, following disagreement that has greeted its primary election for the gubernatorial seat.
Distancing himself from the list Friday afternoon however, the APC National Publicity Secretary, while speaking with Thepage said Dapo Abiodun remained the gubernatorial candidate of the APC in Ogun state.
He said he was yet to sight the new list as at the time of our discussion and thus advised the general public to disregard the list.
